Cutie Honey  Issue: #59  2009

 

1000 words  Spencer presents an informative history of the sexiest android on the planet.  Created in 1973 by manga master Go Nagai, the sword-welding Cutie Honey has slashed and punched her way through an array of media outlets including anime, manga and a live action film adaptation in 2004 starring Japanese model and actress Eriko Sato, as well as a television series that aired in 2007 with popular gravure idol Mikie Hara in the title role.

TV Film Memorabilia 

 

Launched in May 2007, this magazine is the successor of Model & Collectors Mart.  It is the finest magazine of its kind in the UK, covering all aspects of collecting memorabilia/props from the world of cinema and television while regularly delving into the history of many of the titles covered.

 

Barbarella:  Queen of the Galaxy  Issue:  March 2008

 

2000 words:  The 1968 erotic space adventure Barbarella is laid ‘bare’ for all to read in the first of Spencer's double feature for the March issue of TVFM (the second being the assassination of John Lennon and other events of 1980).  The four page spread delves into the making of the campy cult classic and how it went from the pages of a French comic book to the silver screen.

Model & Collectors Mart

 

This magazine was aimed at collectors of film, television and comics, focusing on collectables from the past whilst being up to date with those of the present.  Collectibles covered by the publication include video games, comic books, autographs, trading cards, model replicas and action figures.  It also included a regular price guide for items sold at auctions.  It ceased publication on April 2007 and was succeeded by TV Film Memorabilia the following month.

 

 

Going Banana's Over the Planet of the Apes   Issue: March 2007

 

2500 words.  Part one of a two part feature.  A comprehensive look at the history of one of 20th Century Fox’s greatest film series.  Numerous rare collectables, which include the tunic worn by Caesar (Roddy McDowell) from Conquest for the Planet of the Apes, are coveredSpencer has taken great care to provide information and facts that have never appeared in any magazine before and will interest both the novice and the die-hard fan. 

 

 



 

 

Traditional Karate 

 

A monthly publication aimed at martial arts enthusiast, especially Karate practitioners. The majority of the articles printed centre on techniques, philosophy and club competitions. Film and DVD reviews appear regularly. Other titles released by Martial Arts Publications are Combat and Tae Kwon Do & Korean Martial Arts. 

 

 

Karate Kid DVD Box Set   Issue: Vol. 19 No. 4 December 2005 

 

At 1700 words this is an extensive review of the John Avildsen's "coming of age" martial arts yarn that helped establish Ralph Macchio as one of the brightest young actors to emerge from the "Brat Pack" period of the mid-80s. The original went on to become one of the most successful films of 1984. Three sequels followed with the first of these out grossing its predecessor at the box office two years later.

Dedicated to unusual film, television & retro pop culture, including features, interviews and DVD & Book reviews.  If you love drive-in movies, Universal Studio monsters and Saturday-Morning serials, and anything that’s a little “out-there”, then this magazine is for you!  Published quarterly in the US.

  

 

Rod Serling’s Night Gallery – Season One   January – March 2005:  Issue 105

 

A DVD review of Rod Serling’s marvellously creepy 1970’s TV series. 


Serling presented some of his best work for this underrated horror show that has been greatly over-shadowed by one of the most popular TV series of all time, The Twilight Zone for which he will forever remain synonymous with.  3 Disc set.  Released by Universal Home Video in 2004.
